How to apply.

  • Apply before crabgrass germinates. Target window for Western NY: early April through mid-May. If crabgrass is already visible, it's too late for this year — mark your calendar for next spring.
  • Water in within 14 days. A minimum of 0.5 inches of rainfall or irrigation activates the barrier. If no rain is predicted for 24 hours, apply anyway — just water it in yourself.
  • Don't overseed for 4+ months. The pre-emergent will prevent new grass seed from germinating too. If you've seeded in the last 60 days, wait.
  • Use a broadcast or drop spreader for even coverage. Spreader setting: 4 for Cyclone, 7 for Scotts Drop, 16 for SpeedyGreen, 5.5 for Earthway Broadcast.
  • One application lasts the season. Don't apply more than once per calendar year.
